There’s plenty of bad blood (nudge, nudge, wink wink) between Republicans and Democrats in Congress, but for two nights in July, one woman will bring them together: Taylor Swift.
A whopping 19 congressional lawmakers and political action committees are reserving private boxes to host fundraisers or money grabs as it is commonly known at Swift’s concert at Nationals Park on July 14 and 15, according to Coalescent, a fundraising firm. A handful of lawmakers booked spots earlier this month, but since then, the number of politicos advertising events at the concert has exploded. Who knew congress was full of swifters?
The bipartisan gathering might not amount to a love story (see what we did again?) between the parties, but 13 Republicans and 6 Democrats plan to charge supporters from $750 to $2,500 per ticket for a chance to hobnob with elected officials during the show. Tickets are available to the public for around $60. What a deal! NOT!
The upcoming money-makers aren’t the first time lawmakers have hosted events tied to Swift. A smaller group of politicians also used Swift’s D.C. visits in 2010 and 2011 as well, according to the Sunlight Foundation, which tracks political fundraising bullshit.
For her part, Swift doesn’t advertise her political views or really any views at all besides ‘shaking it off’.
“I try to keep myself as educated and informed as possible,” she told TIME in 2012. “But I don’t talk about politics because it might influence other people. Or like make me think hard.” No word if Swiftknot will make a special appearance or not as of this posting.
